BDDG Convention, Bristol 5th - 9th October 2011

Each year at the beginning of October, the BDDG and BDDG Families Groups from around the country host a Convention. The aim is to provide a 5 day programme to support Family members and BDDG members alike. Separate programmes run alongside each other, with some joint sessions available if you wish. The Convention can be an opportunity to step off the merry-go-round of life and focus upon yourself, no matter what stage you are in relation to a doctor or dentist who is suffering or has suffered from the disease of alcoholism or addiction. The focus is upon Family members sharing their experience, strength and hope in a confidential setting. The programme includes 12step groups, Al-Anon groups, Groups facilitated by therapists who have experience of working with Families of Doctors and Dentists in dedicated Treatment Centres. Therapists are also available for individual and joint sessions. Besides this there are joint BDDG and Families Meetings where you can hear a member from each group share their story. An Academic Day provides information on developments in the field of addiction with a particular focus upon the needs of the doctor or dentist and the family. Last but not least there is time to socialise with Family and / or BDDG members. Hotels are usually chosen with good leisure facilities and near to an interesting town or city. The idea is that you can take as much or as little as you like from the Convention.
