About Us

Families of doctors and dentists face unique problems when the doctor or dentist is dependent on alcohol, drugs or other substances or has any type of addiction. Because addiction affects the whole family, addicts and family members are often afraid their anonymity could be compromised if help is sought from outside, or even from within the professions.

Addiction of any kind often leads to isolation, feelings of shame and fear of what the future holds.

The British Doctors and Dentists Families Group is a self-help organisation which exists independently, but in co-operation with the British Doctors and Dentists Group (BDDG).

The families of many doctors and dentists all over the country have benefited enormously from the support provided by membership of these groups.

Our aim is to support all family members and we welcome partners and any relatives who are suffering, or have suffered, from the effects of a doctor's or dentist's addiction.

What can we offer?

A safe environment where life experiences, knowledge and hope can be shared with total confidentiality in a non-judgmental atmosphere.
Local Families groups which meet once a month in many areas of the UK. See Contact Us.
Workshops throughout the year where members have the opportunity to explore issues in more depth.
An annual five day Convention when all groups get together, providing another opportunity for support with people who understand what it means to live with addiction.
